ARCH Air Medical Service
ARCH Air Medical Service serves emergency care air ambulance service in Illinois, Missouri and the neighboring areas. Out of 250 air medical services in the country, the ARCH Air Medical Service was 12 thcourse in the country for providing service when it started providing qualitative patient treatment in March 1979.
Rotor wing transfers about 4,200 patients every year. The medical staff of the ARCH Aircraft may include a paramedic, nurse and pilot. Air travels are 20% sight and 80% hospital to hospital (inter-facility).
Transfer is also offered for specific groups from Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Southeast Missouri Hospital NICU, Barnes-Jewish OB, St. Francis Medical Center NICU and St. John’s Mercy Medical Center Neonatal.
Air Ambulance services is also called by Medevac and provides transfer by Sling-wing or rotor-wing or fixed-wing plane.
History of the ARCH Air Medical Service
1979 – The service started missions like Medical Air Rescue Corps (MARC) and was located at Saint Louis University Hospital.
1980 – The Medical Air Rescue Corporations changes the Sikorsky S-55 in the Bell JetRanger Helicopter.
1987 – MARC has become non-profit corporation and St. Louis Trauma Centers has supported it. In August 1987, this air ambulance has decreased the cost of operations. The word ARCH that stands for Area Rescue Consortium of Hospitals was chosen for identification the supportive endeavor.
1989 – Paramedic included to the medical team combined with registered nurse or pilot.
1990 – ARCH Medical Air Service changes the Bell JetRanger into the MBB / Kawasaki BK 117 plane and providing double-engine, speed, cabin class, safety and space. Fixed wing service was also added in this year.
1999- ARCH Air Medical Service gets nationwide identification in the conditions of the best patients care, operational safety and medicinal team education. At this time it gets official approval from the CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems).
2000 – Air Methods Corporation acquires the ARCH Air Medical Service, which activates ambulance services in the country by the Air Medical Services Division. In 2000, the LifeBeat Air Medical was acquainted from Southeast Missouri Hospital.
